Limit the number of snacks you eat. If you do snack, choose something that is healthy like fruit, nuts, vegetables or a piece of cheese.
Sweet foods that are eaten as part of a meal cause less harm to teeth than eating lots of snacks throughout the day, because more saliva is released during a meal. Saliva helps wash foods from the mouth and lessens the effects of acids, which can harm teeth and cause cavities.
Sweet things eaten just before bed are especially harmful to our teeth because when we fall asleep our saliva flow gets very low so there is nothing to wash the sugar off our teeth!
Diet soft drinks and sports drinks can be just as harmful to our teeth as regular soft drinks so should only be consumed as an occasional treat!
